Book Description:
Following on from the successful publication of Folkestone's Disappearing Heritage, Pam Dray has gathered together another fascinating collection of old and new photographs to show how this area has changed over time. We have street parties, indoor skating, roller hockey matches and tributes to Harry Wiltshire, the famous Folkestone player, and Walter Tull, who was born in Garden Road and went on to be the first coloured commissioned officer in the Army.We start our journey from the Warren, which has changed dramatically over the past 100 years. It is now a nature reserve and has been opened up with walkers in mind. Years ago you had to fight your way through the bushes to get down to the beach to collect shells and fossils. From there we go along to the Sugar Loaf Hill area, which was all open farm land before the 1950s, looking east, west and south.
