This volume brings together new research by someof the world's leading experts, exploring the artisticproduction and cultural context of Renaissance sculpturefrom Ghiberti's Gates of Paradise to the small bronzes ofGiambologna and his followers. The essays cover a rangeof sculptural materials and forms to cast fresh light onthe artists, their creative and collaborative processes, andthose who commissioned, owned and responded to theirwork. The papers were originally presented at a two-dayconference at the V&A in November 2010 as part of theRobert H. Smith Renaissance Sculpture Programme
