Nancy Victor announces the first London solo exhibition of exciting British artist Robin Footitt. The exhibition assembles recent drawings, paintings and media work with a print portfolio commission by musician KT Tunstall for her forthcoming album “Drastic Fantastic”, to be released 10 September 2007.

Recent works continue an ongoing support for the imaginary sport of observing disaster – creating flags in celebration of the empty spaces we ourselves inhabit with anticipation in the age of big movie blockbusters. What we are presented with could be termed as the “arms of experiments” a phrase coined in the concrete literature piece ‘Morning’ by Brazilian-born artist Oyvind Fahlström (1928-1976).

Using the technique of operating on his existing writing, Fahlström produced a term that is not a new product but a new context from which emerging new matter is created. This is, perhaps, best illustrated in the aforementioned print portfolio, titled ‘Circle Sky’, which illuminates an intricate form of sequential dramas conjured from the artist’s presence in the chronology of recording music. Upon reading this congestion of images in sequence the tension between frames communicates its own narrative whilst giving enough silence for each image to stand apart.

London-based artist Robin Footitt (b. 1982) has exhibited in a number of group and solo exhibitions in London, Frankfurt and New York. In 2006 his first solo exhibition ‘Choose Your Own Adventure’ at Hagan Saint Philip, New York was selected as an ‘art pick’ on artcal.net and January 2007 Footitt’s window display ‘Heist’ at Central London jewellery store Kabiri was featured in Elle Magazine’s ‘Hot Top 10’.

His work has been published in Blackbook Magazine (U.S.) and Marmalade (U.K) and has completed internships at Museum of Modern Art, New York and the Hayward Gallery, London. A 2004 Fine Art graduate of Central Saint Martins, Footitt enters the MA Painting programme at Royal College of Art in October.
