SACRÉ 101 – AN EXHIBITION BASED ON THE RITE OF SPRING

With the exhibition project Sacré 101—An Exhibition Based on The Rite of Spring, the Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst traces the interplay between dance and the visual arts in a sustained engagement with Igor Stravinsky's ballet Le Sacre du printemps (The Rite of Spring). The work features revolutionary music and choreography, and its premiere in Paris one hundred and one years ago is regarded as one of modernism's great breakthrough moments.

Performances at Dia:Beacon

Dia Art Foundation present dance works by renowned avant-garde choreographer and filmmaker Yvonne Rainer at Dia:Beacon, Riggio Galleries, in Beacon, New York. Dia's retrospective will celebrate the depth of Rainer's contributions to dance and will feature her earliest works of choreography from the 1960s—including both iconic and lesser-known pieces—and three compositions created within the last twelve years. Three distinct programs will be presented over weekends in October, 2011, and February and May, 2012.

EARTHFALL: AT SWIM TWO BOYS

To coincide with the 10th anniversary of the novel by Jamie O’Neill, Earthfall revive their award-winning production with a UK tour. Staged entirely in water, and set against the backdrop of the Easter Rising in Ireland, this tender and visually beautiful production previously toured to sell-out audiences in Wales, England, Scotland, Ireland and mainland Europe.

DANCING THE DECADE IN PERFORMANCE - FRONTIERS AND FRAGMENTS

Since 2001, the relationship between the Jerwood Charitable Foundation and The Wapping Project has been a richly creative partnership which has resulted in more than 100 commissions ranging from choreography, photography, jazz and new music, film making, installation and fashion and has thrust many of it commissionees into the centre of London’s cultural life.

MOSCOW CITY'S SWAN LAKE COMES TO THE LYCEUM STAGE

Moscow City Ballet with an exquisite and powerfully emotive performance of Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake is at the Sheffield Lyceum from Tuesday 11 January to Sunday 15 January. MOVE: CHOREOGRAPHING YOU

The Hayward Gallery presents seminal works and new commissions by leading artists in Move: Choreographing You. Exploring the historical and current relationship between visual arts, dance and performance, the exhibition focuses on visual artists and choreographers from the last 50 years who create sculptures and installations that turn the audience into active participants, becoming more aware of their body – or even becoming a dancer.

THE YVONNE RAINER PROJECT

BFI Gallery presents an exhibition dedicated to the work of the legendary American dancer, choreographer and filmmaker, Yvonne Rainer (b.1934) whose practice is amongst the most influential on the newest generation of video makers and choreographers alike. In the last few years there have been a number of important publications on her work and museum shows dedicated to her but this is the first time she has had a gallery exhibition in the UK.

ALLEGRI DIVERSI, GROSSE FUGE - THE CENTRE AND ITS OPPOSITE

Birmingham Royal Ballet returns to Sheffield’s Lyceum Theatre from Tuesday 25 May to Wednesday 26 May with their three critically acclaimed ballets. Set in the garden of an Italian Renaissance villa, Allegri diversi is a short piece by David Bintley and was originally choreographed for Sadler’s Wells Royal Ballet (now Birmingham Royal Ballet) in 1987. The effortless elegance of the dance gives life to Rossini’s light and playful score.

Trisha Brown: So That the Audience Does Not Know Whether I Have Stopped Dancing

The Walker Art Center presents the exhibition Trisha Brown: So That the Audience Does Not Know Whether I Have Stopped Dancing, the centerpiece of a spectrum of programs honoring the 40-year career of this contemporary dance icon at a moment of increasing interest in the broad sweep of her work and its influence. Providing an in-depth look at Brown’s visual arts practice, the exhibition features a survey of the artist’s drawings going back thirty-five years, a live early performance work in the gallery, and videos of seminal early performances.
